Asbury Park Announces City-Wide Fundraiser for Haiti
ASBURY PARK, NJ (Feb. 4, 2010) – The city of Asbury Park is joining forces with community leaders, the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce, nonprofit organizations and area businesses to launch
Haitian Relief 2010 City of Asbury Park. The ongoing fundraising initiative will kick-off Saturday, February 6 during First Saturday Asbury Park. The city-wide event is designed to educate attendees, encourage donations to key disaster-relief organizations, and unite people behind a concerted effort to support Haiti’s earthquake victims.
American Red Cross-Jersey Coast Chapter,
Coastal Habitat for Humanity, and the Ministry of Pastors for Haiti. New Jersey Natural Gas has agreed to match donations collected in Asbury Park on February 6 - dollar for dollar. Pepsi Bottling Group is donating to the event via their Pepsi Team Volunteer Project Grant and will support ongoing efforts through their donation of collection banks that will be located at businesses throughout Asbury Park.
Asbury Park High School art teacher, Jean Johnson, and her students will unveil their final class project, a commemorative elephant for Haiti, on Saturday, February 6 at Cookman Avenue’s The Store by the Shore. The elephant will remain on display throughout the month of February for the purpose of silent-auction bidding and small donations. Funds will go to the APUEZ - Haitian Relief Fund.

Asbury Park will also launch an ongoing collection-bank campaign on February 6. Banks will be located at participating businesses for patrons to make donations for Haiti throughout the coming weeks and months. The beneficiaries of the piggy-bank campaign will continue to be: the American Red Cross - Jersey Coast Chapter, Coastal Habitat for Humanity and the Ministry of Pastors for Haiti.
Donation checks are to be made payable to:
APUEZ – Haitian Relief Fund. All donations will then be allocated evenly to the three charity beneficiaries.
