TRASH COLLECTION
Business trash is picked-up at curbside only on Mondays and Fridays between 6am and 9am. Please do not place out containers weighing more then 60 lbs. Place at curb no later then 6am the day of collection or not earlier than Sunset the day prior to collection. Remove empty containers no later then 6pm collection day. Prevent litter by bagging trash securely.

BULK ITEMS
No more then three items per business per collection day. Items must not weigh more then 120 lbs. each. Place with regular trash at curbside for collection.

STREET SWEEPING
Street Sweeping is conducted Monday through Friday (weather permitting) between the hours of 7am and 9am. Please avoid parking where litter may be present during these hours.

RECYCLING
All businesses are responsible for recycling glass bottles and jars, aluminum food and beverage containers, tin and metal food and beverage containers, newspapers, and corrugated cardboard. These items can be dropped off at the City's Recycling Center, 818 Springwood Ave (between Main Street and the railroad tracks) Monday to Friday between 4pm and 8pm and Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 2pm.

STOREFRONTS
Business operators and/or owners are responsible to keep sidewalks and curbs in front of their premises free of litter and weed growth. Litter must not be swept into streets. Litter barrels are for litter only -- not for use as disposal containers for trash originating from businesses.

Mission

The mission of the Asbury Park Public Works Department is to manage and sustain the appearance and infrastructure of the city, provide safe travel and convenient, cost effective solid waste services

Duties & Challenges

  • Maintains 55 acres of public parks, 38 miles of road, 1 mile of beachfront and boardwalk, 3 lakes and 3 fountains

  • Manages twice a week curbside pickup of household garbage and bulk waste

  • Manages the recycling drop-off center (open 7 days a week) and curbside pickup twice a month

  • Provides public works services including plowing and de-icing roads as well as the curbside pickup of leaves (2005 leaf pickup was 800 tons)

  • Provides custodial and mechanical maintenance of buildings and grounds including the municipal building, transportation center and the public works administration building

  • Operates the city’s waste water quality control plant

  • Manages automotive fleet maintenance for public works and the other city departments and agencies

  • Manages emergency clean-up response generated by storms, flooding, snow and ice, fire, spillage on roads

  • Provides special event traffic control barricading and sanitation control

  • Implements the city’s holiday lighting program

  • Reviews all site plan applications which impact the city’s infrastructure with the city engineer
