Professional Profile
First Elected: 2014
I am a graduate of Asbury Park High School and earned my degree at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. I was an All-Conference football and basketball player at Nebraska, and my prospects for a professional football career in the NFL were cut short by an ankle injury while playing for the Long Island Chiefs.
I’ve worked and coached, both football and basketball, at many Monmouth County schools, including Freehold Intermediate School, Red Bank Regional, Shore Regional, as well as Asbury Park Middle School and High School. I also worked as a counselor at the Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital.
Community Organizations / Boards Served
I am very active in my church, Good Hope Baptist Church on Washington Avenue. I am an usher and nurse at Good Hope and am currently the President of the Ushers and Nurse Association.
I have always been a community-minded person. At the University of Nebraska at Omaha, I worked for the Job Corps program and volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club there. In Asbury Park, I have run recreation programs and volunteered as a coach for both Little League and basketball.
The Asbury Park City Council is in a unique position to help the City’s residents and youth. I have lived in this city for my entire life. I have watched Asbury’s transformation, so I know that change is possible. I am excited to be part of the positive changes ahead.
Personal Summary
My family is very important to me. My wife Phalia and I have three children, one daughter and two sons. Phalia is a retired Asbury Health and Physical Education Teacher.
My daughter Aisha has worked for over 17 years at Jersey Shore Medical Center, my son Jesse is a police officer, and my youngest son Jairus is a graduate of Kean University and works for Peerless Beverages.
