City of Asbury Park Awarded Sustainable Jersey Grant to Advance Sustainability GoalsGrant to Provide Composting Bins and Education Sessions for Residents
7/9/21, Asbury Park, NJ – The City of Asbury Park was awarded a $2,000 Sustainable Jersey capacity-building grant funded by the PSEG Foundation. The grant will be used to provide composting bins and education sessions for residents.
Sustainable Jersey is a non-profit that provides tools, training and financial incentives to support sustainability programs throughout New Jersey. 32 grants were awarded across 14 counties to help municipalities make progress toward a sustainable future, and specifically toward Sustainable Jersey certification.
“Our residents have made multiple requests for a municipal composting facility which unfortunately isn’t possible as we have almost no City-owned vacant land,” said Mayor John Moor, “To offer a solution, we submitted a grant proposal to Sustainable Jersey to provide composting bins and education sessions to our residents. We are thrilled to be awarded the grant and thank Sustainable Jersey and PSEG Foundation for helping advance our sustainability goals.”
“Information session and composting bin details will be announced once the grant is officially received and the resident composting program has been finalized,” said Director of Planning and Redevelopment Michele Alonso, “We are proud of our current silver level certification from Sustainable Jersey and look forward to being recertified this year. The certification highlights the City’s continual efforts in going green and creating a sustainable future for Asbury Park.”
