A permit is required prior to installation of fences. Front property lines can be up to several feet in from the sidewalk – this area is known as the public Right of Way (ROW). Fences, walls and other secured structures are prohibited from being in the ROW. Grass, flowers and other low-lying vegetation are permitted in the ROW, but rocks and stones are not.
Visit www.cityofasburypark.com/zoning for a Fence Permit Application and the City’s Interactive Right of Way map. The map can help residents/property owners understand the general location of their property line and where it abuts a public ROW. Please note, the map is not a substitute for a property survey which is required when submitting a fence application to accurately show the property line.
Please call the City of Asbury Park Zoning Department at 732-502-5708 with questions prior to installation of fences. Violators may be required to remove structures in the ROW and are subject to fines.
