Statement from the Asbury Park City Council Regarding "Pop-Up Parties" 4/26/23
The Asbury Park City Council is aware that large unsanctioned and promoted group events known as “Pop-Up Parties” have led to disorderly conduct, fighting, public consumption of alcoholic beverages, vandalism, looting, rioting, and general chaos on the beach and in the streets of several other beachfront communities in New Jersey over the past year, causing property damage, injuries and even deaths. These events promote lawless behavior and pose a serious risk to the health, safety and welfare of the community and participants.
The Asbury Park City Council hereby warns the public that such events are illegal and will not be tolerated in Asbury Park. Any such events will immediately be shut down, and organizers and participants will be charged and arrested as necessary to maintain peace and order. The Asbury Park Police Department will maintain a zero-tolerance approach and will ensure that offenders are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Organizers will also be subject to civil penalties and charged with all costs necessary to maintain operations throughout the City, as well as all costs related to assistance provided from other local, County and/or State agencies, as needed, to maintain peace and order.
We welcome all visitors to our beautiful City. However, the City of Asbury Park will not tolerate the types of lawless activities that accompany “Pop-Up Parties,” and the City will take immediate and appropriate actions to stop these types of illegal events from occurring here.
