Asbury Park Awarded NJ Department of Transportation Municipal Aid Program Grant

$430,000 NJDOT Grant Will Fund Bond Street Road Improvements Project

12/18/19, Asbury Park, NJ – The City of Asbury Park has been awarded a $430,000 Municipal Aid Program Grant by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) to fund a roadway improvement project on Bond Street from Summerfield to Fifth Avenues. The project, which is anticipated to start in 2020, will include curb upgrades for ADA compliance at every intersection, new driveway aprons, partial sidewalk replacement, sanitary sewer upgrades, drainage improvements, full-depth road reconstruction and final repaving and restriping.

“We’re thrilled to be awarded this NJDOT grant and look forward to improving Bond Street which has been in need of repair,” said Mayor John Moor, “City Council’s goal is to bring all Asbury Park streets up to the latest standards, making them safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Over the last three years, 6.3 miles of streets have been repaved – representing approximately 13% of City streets, and we look forward to continuing the much-needed work.”

“Asbury Park was one of over 661 applicants who requested more than $368 million in funding from the $161.25 million Municipal Aid program,” said Transportation Director Michael Manzella, “This grant allows municipalities to request state assistance for improvements of our local transportation network and we’re grateful to the State for their support.”
