4/2/2020 Asbury Park, NJ – In response to COVID-19, the Asbury Park Fire Department has purchased a new AeroClave RDS 3110 mobile disinfection system to help protect against the virus. The portable fogging system, which costs approximately $16,000, disinfects on contact by using Vital Oxide in an enclosed area and can disinfect an ambulance in approximately 30 minutes.
“Our first responder Firefighter/EMTs are on the front lines daily and equipment like the AeroClave is critical in ensuring their safety and the safety of our patients,” said Fire Chief Kevin Keddy, “We are able to disinfect our ambulance, as well as medical and firefighting equipment, after potential exposure to COVID-19 and prevent cross-contamination with the next patient that is transported. We’re thankful to our Mayor and Council for allowing us the resources to place this order when we did – the units are now back-ordered and won’t be available for months.”
Asbury Park Fire Department (EMS) is following operating guidelines in response to COVID-19 developed by Battalion Chief Richard Dreyer (Infection Control Officer) with information from the National Fire Prevention Association, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Monmouth County Health Department, the Monmouth County Communications Center, and APFD EMS Medical Director Dr. Steven Vetrano concerning any medical responses that fit the possible symptoms of the virus.
