City of Asbury Park Recreation Department Summer 2020 Programs

6/30/20, Asbury Park, NJ – This summer, the Asbury Park Recreation Department will be offering an amended summer recreation program for Asbury Park youth due to COVID-19 restrictions.

“We know Summer is an important time of year – and that our youth need opportunities for learning and enrichment,” said Councilperson Jesse Kendle, “We unfortunately are not able to hold our popular Summer Recreation Day Camp, but the City’s Recreation Committee is working hard to provide safe programming during the COVID-19 pandemic. The health and safety of our children is City Council’s primary concern.”

Summer Activity Bags
Free Summer Activity Bags will be provided for Asbury Park children ages 5 to 10. Bags will include activities that children can do on their own, or with parents, including sidewalk chalk, coloring books, crayons, puzzles and more.

To register, email Leesha Floyd at Proof of residency will be required. Bags will be supplied while quantities last.

Bags can be picked up curbside at City Hall (1 Municipal Plaza) by calling 732-502-5759 during these hours:

  • Wednesday, 7/7 to Friday, 7/11 from 10am to 12pm
  • Monday, 7/13 to Friday, 7/17 from 3pm to 5pm

Asbury Park Recreation Department Beach Access Cards

The City will be providing free Asbury Park Recreation Department Beach Access Cards to families of Asbury Park youth. Beach cards will allow one parent/guardian to bring children ages 5-12 from their household to Asbury Park beaches free of charge from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm starting Wednesday, 7/8 through Labor Day.

Registration begins 7/8. Proof of residency required. Beach Access Cards are limited to 1 card per household. The card allows access for one parent/guardian and the children in their household ages 5-12 only. Cards are valid starting 7/8 through Labor Day and are not replaceable if lost or stolen.

Asbury Park Recreation Department Beach Access Card holders can access the beach by showing the card to the beach badge checker at any beach entrance from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday.

City of Asbury Park Ambassador Work Program

The City is offering an Ambassador Work Program for Asbury Park youth ages 15 to 20 to serve as City Ambassadors. The Ambassadors will provide masks, directions, city guides and other info to Asbury Park visitors at the train station, on Cookman Avenue and on the Boardwalk.

Ambassadors must be Asbury Park residents age 15 to 20. Hourly pay rate is $11.50/hour for 4 ½ hours a day / 6 days per week. PPE will be provided. Background check, physical and drug test required.
