Beach Information


Asbury Park's mile of sand and water has been drawing surfers, swimmers, sunbathers, fishers,
and people-watchers for centuries. The Asbury Park Boardwalk is home to restaurants,
retail, mini golf, music, playgrounds, water parks, and more.

Memorial Day Weekend (Saturday, May 25) through at least Labor Day Weekend (Monday, September 2).

Additional September weekends may be added after Labor Day, depending on weather and water conditions. 


Monday to Friday: 9am to 5pm
Weekends and Holidays: 9am to 6pm

During these hours there will be lifeguards on duty, and buoys and ropes marking off the areas for swimming.

Keep an eye out for the safe conditions flag: if the water is rough, follow lifeguard instructions to leave the water.

Please do not swim when lifeguards are not on duty.


To access the beach, beach passes (badges or wristbands) must be worn at all times and will be checked on your way onto the sand. 

Beach passes can be purchased with cash or check at booths at all beach entries or at the Beach Office on First Avenue (see above for hours).

Credit card payment is accepted through the Viply smartphone app (starting May 1), at parking pay stations near the boardwalk, at beach pass pay stations located on the boardwalk, and at the Beach Office on First Avenue.

Beach Lockers


Beach storage lockers are available for rent to seasonal beach pass holders on a first come/first served basis. Lockers are available for the beach season from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Lockers are available for use starting the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and must be emptied by September 9.

The renewal deadline for 2019 Beach Lockers is May 8, 2019. The rate is $225 and payment can be made at 9 Main Street, or at the Beach Office after May 1, by cash or check made out to “The City of Asbury Park”.

There is currently a first come/first served wait list for beach lockers. To be added to the list, go to 9 Main Street, or the Beach Office after May 1, to fill out a Beach Locker Application. Applicants will start being contacted the third week of May if there are any vacancies.

Public Restrooms and Outdoor Showers

Public restrooms are located behind the Beach Office between First and Second Avenue, behind Pucker’s Lemonade on Fourth Avenue, inside Convention Hall which is between Fifth Avenue and Sunset Avenue, and near the Seventh Avenue beach entry.

Handicap restrooms are available behind the Beach Office between First and Second Avenue, inside Convention Hall, which is between Fifth Avenue and Sunset Avenue, and near Seventh Avenue.

Outdoor showers to rinse off the sand are located at all beach exits and behind Pucker’s Lemonade on Fourth Avenue.

Free Beach Playgrounds

Free beach playgrounds are located on the beach at 2nd Avenue and 7th Avenue.


Free Wifi is available on Asbury Park Beaches and Boardwalk.

Handicap Chairs

A limited number of handicap beach chairs are available. Requests handicap chairs and assistance at any ticket booth.


On-street paid public parking is available along the entire beachfront. The metered parking rates and locations can be found here:

Private-owned surface parking lots are also located near the waterfront, with daily rates based on the date and any special events, from $7 to $20 per day.

From September 15 through May 15, dogs (as long as they're licensed and supervised) are welcome on the Boardwalk and the Eighth Avenue Dog Beach. Dogs are not permitted on beaches other than the Eighth Avenue Dog Beach.

From May 16 to September 14, dogs are allowed on the Eighth Avenue Dog Beach only from 6pm to 8:30am. Dogs must be off the beach by 8:30am. Dogs are not permitted on the Boardwalk or on beaches other than the Eighth Avenue Dog Beach.

If your dog is unleashed, please make sure they're on their best behavior! And please be on your own best behavior by cleaning up after your pup.


Bicycles are not allowed on the boardwalk from 10am to 12am (midnight) (Effective May 10, 2018, Ordinance 5-4.9)

Skates, rollerblades, skateboards, and scooters (except handicap vehicles) are prohibited on the boardwalk. 


The area between the jetties on Deal Lake Drive and Eighth Avenue is a closed-to-the-public, surfing-only beach from June 16 through Labor Day 


Asbury is home to the Asbury Park Fishing Club, the country's oldest saltwater fishing club. Before you start reeling in the big catches,
you are required to register with the New Jersey Saltwater Registry

Fishing is prohibited near bathing areas.

Asbury Park Beaches are smoke-free.

Do not enter the water if you are experiencing or recovering from diarrhea or having any signs or symptoms of gastrointestinal (stomach)
disease in the last seven days.

All children in diapers must wear plastic pants with tight fitting waist and leg bands. Do not wash out diapers in the bathing water.

Children should be encouraged to use the restroom before entering the water. Immediately report any accidents to the lifeguard.

Alcohol and glass containers are prohibited.

Conduct that endangers safety and comfort of others shall be prohibited.

Outdoor bathing shall be prohibited during an electrical storm.

Persons suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol shall be prohibited from entering the water.
