GARGAGE AND RECYCLING COLLECTION SCHEDULE

WHEN TO SET OUT AND REMOVE GARBAGE & RECYCLING CONTAINERS

  • Garbage and recycling containers can be set at the curbside no earlier than 5pm the day before collection and must be removed from the curbside by 6pm the day of collection. (Ordinance # 19-2.1)

PLACE THESE MATERIALS IN REGULAR HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE

  • Microwave trays, mirrors, window or auto glass, light bulbs, ceramics, porcelain, plastic bags, un-numbered plastic containers, pottery, coat hangers, glass cookware/bakeware, cooking pots, and toasters.
  • Any items soiled with food, pet or human waste.

RECYCLING

  • Put glass, plastic, metal, paper and cardboard together, without a bag, in one bin that is then placed at the curb.
  • Recycling can also be dropped off at the Asbury Park Recycling Center located at 818 Lake Avenue. Hours: Monday-Friday 4pm to 8pm, Saturday-Sunday 10am to 2pm.
  • What to Recycle:

    • Glass bottles and jars for food and beverage
    • Plastic containers: Only #1 and #2 with a 'pourable' neck that is smaller than the body. (Manufacturers print a standard code on the bottom of every container)
    • Metal Cans: Aluminum cans, Tin cans and Bi-Metal cans (tin cans with aluminum lids), non-hazardous, empty aerosol cans
    • Paper & Cardboard: Cardboard shipping boxes; Mixed paper: newspapers including inserts, magazines, softcover books, white/color office paper, junk mail, non-metallic wraping paper, paper bags, etc; Cereal boxes, tissue boxes and shoe boxes
  • What Not to Recycle:
    • Straws, caps or lids
    • Broken glass
    • Ceramics or dishes
    • Drinking glasses
    • Lightbulbs
    • Plastics marked #3-#7 or unnumbered
    • Plastic bags (please return to grocery stores)
    • Kitchen trash bags
    • Food storage or take-out containers
    • Plastic wrap or food wrappers
    • Margarine tubs, yogurt containers
    • Diaper wipe containers
    • Styrofoam
    • Coat hangers (return to dry cleaner
    • Alumium foil or plates
    • Trays or cookware
    • Metal scraps or paint cans
    • Milk cartons, juice cartons and juice boxes
    • Grease or food stained cardboard boxes (pizza boxes) or waxed cardboard
    • Tissues, papertowels, napkins, paper plates, paper cups,
    • Newspaper used for pet waste or household projects
    • Shredded paper
  • Dos and Don'ts:
    • Do put glass, plastic, metal, paper and cardboard, without a bag, in one bin that is then placed at the curb.
    • Do not place recyclables in plastic bags, do not recycle plastic bags of any kind
    • Do empty and rinse bottles, jars and containers
    • Do remove lids, caps and straws
    • Do not exceed maximum container weight of 60 lbs.
    • Do bring all electronics (televisions, monitors, printers, stereos, VCRS and DVD players, cell phones, etc) to Asbury Park Recycling Center at 818 Lake Ave (Monday-Friday 4pm to 8pm, Saturday-Sunday 10am to 2pm)

ASBURY PARK RECYCLING CENTER

  • Residents and businesses can drop off the following free of charge: telephones, televisions, microwaves, cameras, computers, printers, bottles and jars, cardboard, metal cans, office paper and newspaper.
  • The Asbury Park Recycling Center is located at 818 Lake Avenue and is open Monday-Friday 4pm-8pm, Saturday and Sunday 10am-2pm.

BULK WASTE

  • Bulk waste must be placed curbside on the second garbage day of the week according to your Zone.
  • A maximum of three (3) items will be collected with each pick-up.
  • Bulk waste includes couches, wooden bedframes, wooden bookcases, large chairs, rugs, carpeting, padding, mirrors, dressers, mattresses or box springs wrapped in plastic. 

WHITE GOODS

  • Resident must contact DPW at 732-775-0900 to schedule pick-up of white goods.
  • A maximum of five (5) items will be collected with each pick-up.
  • White goods include refrigerators, stoves, freezers, air conditioners, BBQ grills, metal tables, and all metal items. 

TELEVISION & ELECTRONICS RECYCLING

  • Televisions and other electronics (computers, monitors, printers, scanners, copiers, stereos, VCRS and DVD players, cell phones, cameras, wires, cables etc) maybe be dropped off at the Asbury Park Recycling Center at 818 Lake Ave (Mon-Fri 4pm to 8pm, Sat-Sun 10am to 2pm).
  • Please note that pick-up by DPW is not available for televisions.

TIRE DROP OFF: MONMOUTH COUNTY RECLAMATION CENTER

  • Free tire drop off (18” or less with no rims) for Monmouth County residents only. Resident ID is required. Limit of 8 car tires. Drop off at Monmouth County Reclamation Center at 6000 Asbury Avenue, Tinton Falls, NJ. Use Gate A.

LEAF COLLECTION: October 15th to December 31st

  • Between October 15th and December 31st DPW will collect leaves weekly.
  • Place leaves in either biodegradable leaf bags or loose in piles at curbside, leaving a 6-inch gap between leaf piles and the curb to allow storm water to flow through.
  • Do not place leaf piles within 10 feet of storm inlets or rake leaves into the street as gutters and storm sewers can become blocked causing localized flooding during moderate-to-heavy rainfall.
  • Clean leaf piles only. Do not include branches, grass clippings, dirt, or brush in leaf piles. If leaf piles are dirty, they will not be picked up.

YARD WASTE & GRASS CLIPPINGS 

  • Yard waste includes brush, shrubs, vines, hedges, and old flowers/plants. Grass, leaves, and dirt are not to be included.
  • Put yard waste in bags and place curbside for pick up on your scheduled garbage day.  
  • Branches can be placed curbside for pick up on your scheduled garbage day. Branches must be tied in bundles no heavier than sixty (60) pounds and no longer than four (4) feet.
  • The City does not pick up tree stumps.
  • Cut grass and leave it on your lawn or use it for composting. Grass clippings will not be picked up and are not accepted at our Recycling Center. For a fee, Monmouth County Reclamation Center will accept grass clippings at 6000 Asbury Ave, Tinton Falls, NJ 07753. Call 732-683-8686 for details.

CHRISTMAS TREE DISPOSAL

  • Christmas trees may be placed curbside and will be picked up by zone according to your household garbage pickup schedule. Please ensure trees are free of decoration.
